Born from pure wanderlust, an inherited obligation to recycle, and a constant need to create, Flophouze Shipping Container Hotel is a unique lodging experience in Round Top, Texas. Owner Matt White and his crew from Recycling The Past transformed recycled shipping containers into stylish accommodations. The interiors are cladded with sustainably harvested wood from a farm in upstate New York and reclaimed lumber from a Kentucky distillery. Windows salvaged from a Philadelphia school, kitchen cabinet bases from a Brooklyn laboratory, and countertops made from old Texas bowling alley floors give each houze its funky vibe. Six Flophouzes are available, each outfitted with vintage artifacts, rugs, art, and fixtures from global travels and the Round Top Antiques Show. Guests enjoy complimentary coffee, tea, Topo Chico, and Mexican Cokes, along with hammocks, fire pits, and famous Round Top sunsets. The property is shared by Recycling the Past and The Round Top Ballroom special events venue.
