Round Top 4th of July Parade 2026
Every July 4th, Round Top throws the kind of small-town Independence Day celebration that most Americans only see in movies. The 2026 event marks the 176th year — a tradition that started in 1873, when German settlers decided this little crossroads in Fayette County deserved a proper holiday.

The Parade
Before the parade steps off, the celebration opens with a ceremony at the Round Top town square. Elected leaders — local officials, county judges, state representatives — give brief speeches, and the crowd gathers around the square in the shade of the old live oaks. It's the kind of civic moment that feels genuinely meaningful in a town this small, where the people on that podium are your actual neighbors.
The Cannon Shot
The parade doesn't start with a whistle or a wave — it starts with a cannon shot. When that thing goes off, the whole square feels it. It's one of those moments that reminds you this tradition has been going on since before the Civil War. Stand near the square and don't miss it.
After the cannon fires, the parade winds through the town along TX-237. Round Top has a permanent population of about 90 people, so this is about as authentic as small-town America gets — no corporate floats, no bleacher tickets, no PA announcer reading sponsor names.
What you get instead: horses, local families on flatbeds, the town fire truck, kids on decorated bikes, and enough flags to make you feel genuinely patriotic. The town square is the best viewing spot — you get the full ceremony, the cannon, and the parade all from one place.
This year marks the 176th consecutive celebration. One of the only interruptions in that streak was COVID in 2020. Even the World Wars didn't stop it.
Parade Route & Location
The parade steps off from the Round Top Rifle Association Hall and travels through the historic town center along TX-237 — the same main road that runs the full 11-mile antique show corridor. The entire route stays close to the Hall, so there's no bad spot to watch from. After the parade, everyone returns to the Hall for BBQ, music, and dancing.

What the Full Day Looks Like
Arrive early — claim your spot on the square
Round Top has virtually no parking infrastructure. Get there by 9 AM, park along FM1457 or in overflow fields, and walk to the town square. A spot around the square gets you the ceremony, the cannon shot, and the parade all from one place.
Town square ceremony & cannon shot
Elected officials deliver remarks from the town square — local, county, and state leaders all take a turn. Then the cannon fires to kick off the parade. You'll feel it before you hear it. Don't miss this part.
Parade through town
The parade winds through the town center along TX-237 — horses, flatbed floats, the fire truck, kids on decorated bikes. The whole route is short; the square stays the best vantage point.
BBQ: brisket, sausage & all the fixings
The Rifle Association serves a traditional Texas BBQ meal at the Hall — smoked brisket and sausage with all the sides. This is the centerpiece of the day and has been part of the tradition for generations. Live music and a raffle run alongside.
Round Top shops are open
July 4th is one of the few non-show days when the town's year-round boutiques, galleries, antique shops, and restaurants are busy. Stroll the square and hit the stores after the parade.
Dance
The celebration wraps with dancing at the Hall. This is very much a local tradition — expect a mix of ages, two-step, and a lot of people who have been coming to this event their entire lives.
The BBQ
The Round Top Rifle Association serves a proper Texas BBQ meal after the parade — smoked brisket, sausage, and all the traditional sides. This isn't a food truck setup or a catered event. It's community cooking, the way it's been done here for over a century.
The BBQ is also the main fundraiser for the Rifle Association, a 501(c)(4) non-profit that has maintained the Hall and organized this celebration for 153 years. When you buy a plate, you're helping keep the tradition going.

Shops Open After the Parade
One of the underrated reasons to make the trip on July 4th — not just during the antique show — is that Round Top's year-round businesses are open and the town isn't nearly as crowded as show week. After the parade winds down, there's real shopping to be done.
The town square and surrounding blocks have antique dealers, clothing boutiques, home goods shops, art galleries, and one of the best restaurants in the Texas Hill Country. Browse at your own pace — no shuttle buses, no $5 parking lots, no three-hour waits for a breakfast table.
Antiques & home goods
Several of Round Top's permanent dealers are open year-round, not just during the shows. July 4th is a good shopping day.
Clothing & boutiques
The town square has several clothing and accessories boutiques that draw visitors on weekends and holidays.
Royer's Round Top Cafe
The famous cafe is typically open. If you've never had Royer's pie, the 4th of July is a good excuse.
Art galleries
Several galleries along FM2714 and in the town square carry Texas artists and rotate shows periodically.

153 Years Before the Antique Show
Most people discover Round Top through the antique show. But Round Top was celebrating Independence Day a full century before Emma Lee Turney organized the first antiques fair in 1968.
The tradition was started by German immigrants who settled the Fayette County area in the mid-1800s. They formed the Round Top Rifle Association in 1873 — a civic organization that would host the 4th of July celebration for the next 153 years and counting. The annual event has survived two World Wars, the Depression, and a pandemic (COVID 2020 was one of the only breaks in the streak).
The Rifle Association still owns and operates the hall that bears its name, which also serves as a wedding and event venue the rest of the year. When you attend the 4th of July celebration, you're participating in the oldest continuous event in this part of Texas.
Make a Weekend of It
July 4th falls on a Saturday this year, which makes it a natural long-weekend trip. Round Top has lodging options ranging from B&Bs inside the town to Airbnbs spread across the surrounding countryside. Book early — July 4th weekend books up.
